Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurological and developmental disorder that begins early in childhood and lasts throughout a person's life. It affects how a person acts and interacts with others, communicates, and learns. It includes Asperger syndrome and pervasive developmental disorders. According to National Autism Society of Malaysia, approximately 9,000 children in Malaysia are born with autism every year. Additionally, worldwide it is estimated that 1 in 59 people are diagnosed with autism.

Dyslexia, also known as reading disorder, is characterized by trouble with reading despite normal intelligence. Different people are affected to a certain degree. Problems may include difficulties in spelling words, reading quickly, writing words, pronouncing words when reading aloud and understanding what one reads. In Malaysia, there is an estimated number of 600,000 school-going children with dyslexia. According to Dyslexia International, there are more than 700 million children and adults worldwide at risk of dyslexia.
